Emotional Intelligence in the Classroom
Elizabeth Keifer Herron, Vice President - Solutions and Sales, Collegiate Admissions & Retention Solutions
- This session will blend emotional intelligence and the vital role that knowing and practicing these skills has for our people and our students. We cannot be successful with our mission to enroll, train, retain and graduate students if our people do not feel physically, emotionally, or mentally “safe”. We cannot deny the data – higher than ever percentages of people experiencing mental health challenges, and it is at a crisis level on college campuses, at the same time that there is a shortage of mental health services. It can sometimes take months for people to get an appointment. None of us can “fix” this, but we can do our part to be authentic, empathetic and to create a climate of support where people are free to grow. Because student engagement is the number one way to retain individuals and promote completion, today’s post-secondary education requires leaders who are strong, emotionally intelligent and empathetic.

Kelly Cobb, BSN, RN & Jessica Langley-Loep, MS - National Healthcareer Association
- Are you looking for ways to help your students bridge the gap between classroom learning and the real world? Many instructors are finding that there is a growing gap between what students gain in the classroom and what they need to know to be successful in the work setting. Using research findings and real-world examples from the presenters, this session will explore the reasons for this gap and discuss the best techniques educators can immediately implement to close this classroom-to-practice gap for students and industry professionals. Closing this gap addresses the importance of fostering a culture of competence, collaboration, and job readiness.
